London Coliseum to host State Ballet of Georgia’s Swan Lake in 2024

The world-renowned State Ballet of Georgia is set to make its debut in England with Swan Lake at the London Coliseum.

Headlining this event is Nina Ananiashvili, a globally celebrated figure in ballet. Ananiashvili, the former prima ballerina of the Bolshoi Ballet and a former principal dancer at the American Ballet Theatre, now leads the State Ballet of Georgia as its director. This marks her return to London since her last performance in the city in 1999 and is a highly anticipated moment for ballet enthusiasts.

The State Ballet of Georgia’s rendition of Swan Lake, running from 28 August, promises a lavish experience. The company, known for its skilled and versatile dancers, will bring Tchaikovsky’s timeless masterpiece to life. This production, hailed for its elaborate costumes, stunning choreography, and the incorporation of Georgian cultural elements, is expected to captivate London audiences.

Director of State Ballet of Georgia, Nina Ananiashvili said: “Swan Lake is one of our best repertoires. It combines elaborate costumes, stunning choreography, exquisite ornaments and the young generation of dancers with Georgian characteristics.

“Swan Lake has always had an important place in my career. It was the first ballet that I performed in the Bolshoi Theatre and was my first and final significant performance at American Ballet Theater. I can’t wait to share it with audiences in London for the first time.”

Accompanying the performances will be the award-winning English National Opera Orchestra, enhancing the experience with their musical prowess. The State Ballet of Georgia, with a 175-year tradition and ranking among the world’s top ten classical ballet companies, is poised to deliver a memorable performance.
